About me

My experience as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist.

I can offer you 24 years experience as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I have been continuously accredited by BACP since 2003. I work with adults of all ages and have a specialism in counselling young people 12-19 years old, I have also been a qualified counselling supervisor since 2009. In addition I have lectured in counselling for 20 years.

How I can help you as a counsellor

I offer you a FREE 20 minute introductory phone call to discuss working together and answer any questions you may have for me. I can offer you daytime, evening and weekend sessions.

In addition to my adult work my specialism in counselling young people 12-19 years old and university students is informed by 25 years counselling experience in sixth form colleges, universities and further education. I have attended many training events specific to young people including self- harm, exam stress, anxiety, depression and eating disorders.

Whether you are an adult, or a young person, I offer further specialisms in bereavement, stress self harm and anxiety .Other Issues I can help you with include: depression, exam stress, relationship/family breakdown, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and serious illness. See below for a definitive list of issues.

I understand the reason you are seeking counselling may not be in relation to any specific definable issue. For example you may want a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings or seek to grow as a person. It is my wish that our sessions together can help you to understand yourself better and provide greater insight and awareness of your presenting issues or life experience.

My Person Centred/Integrative approach to counselling

An important aspect of our ongoing therapeutic relationship is that you have the autonomy to choose the issues and concerns you wish to focus upon and the pace you wish to work at. I aim to be open and honest in relation to all aspects of our work together.

I work alongside you in a relationship built around equality and trust. I offer a safe, confidential environment, free from judgement where I seek to communicate my understanding of your concerns in an empathic way. The quality of the counselling relationship is often the most significant factor for clients reflecting on why counselling helped them.

Sometimes I Integrate other counselling approaches to enhance our work together. I have trained in Person Centred Art Therapy, please ask me if you wish to use art materials in our sessions together. I also integrate Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and sometimes Psychodynamic theory..

Exam Stress

I have extensive experience of working effectively with young people coping with exam stress and anxiety. I integrate an established CBT model to improve a young person’s ability to prepare for and sit their exams. Most commonly this has been with A level and GCSE students.
