About me
I was appointed as a consultant in 2000 following my training programme in the Mersey Region and research post at the Christies hospital in Manchester. Currently I am the trust Gynaecology Clinical lead and also the lead for gynaecological cancer and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. My main areas of expertise are in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding ( including post menopausal), pelvic masses, pelvic pain and colposcopy.
I have championed the introduction of laparoscopic gynaecological surgery in the North East and have introduced enhanced recovery protocols to allow us to perform hysterectomies as day cases. I currently perform around 200 major laparoscopic procedures per year including hysterectomies and removal of ovaries. I have also introduced procedures such as Radiofrequency Endometrial Ablation (Novasure) which I have now performed for 15 years and Hysteroscopic procedures to remove uterine fibroids and polyps (Myosure). These are often performed under local anaesthetic allowing rapid recovery from the procedure.
I have been registered with the BSCCP as an accredited colposcopist for 25 years
