About me

I am a Consultant Spine Surgeon focused on providing you with an accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, and timely, compassionate follow-up care.

I studied Medicine at Cambridge University, which included a clinical attachment at Yale University, USA. I furthered my education as a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University, USA, and was a visiting scholar at the Depart of Neurosurgery, Barrow Neurological Institute, USA. I was subsequently awarded a Spine Surgery Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, USA. In 2015, I was appointed as a Consultant Spine Surgeon at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

I will draw on my international experience at the world’s leading orthopaedic and neurosurgical hospitals to design a tailored treatment plan, with the goal of helping you make a quick recovery.

My private practice is focused on identifying the root cause for spinal symptoms like back pain, neck pain, and nerve pain/ sciatica. I am an expert in diagnosing the complex conditions that can underly these symtoms, such as disc disease, deformity, stenosis, cancer, infection and trauma. I also offer day surgery treatments, including spine injections, in my private practice.

Following your first consultation, I will provide you with a detailed report describing your diagnosis; my findings on performing a neurological and orthopaedic examination; the results of your tests including MRI scans; the treatment options available to you; and the evidence base for your tailored treatment plan.

Research and publications:
My research focus at Harvard University was surgical patient safety and injury prevention. My interest in patient safety was first ignited as a medical student at Yale University. I experienced first-hand how close collaboration between patients and clinicians in a strong academic environment can result in good patient outcomes. I also have a special interest in the use of navigation, robotics, and artificial intelligence in spine surgery. I have published a book and journal articles on these and other aspects of spine surgery including conditions affecting affect the cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, and sacrum. I have presented at many conferences, including the North American Spine Society’s Annual meeting and the British Association of Spine Surgeons' Annual meeting. I give back to my profession by teaching spinal anatomy, including neuroanatomy, at Cambridge University.

Awards:
The Robert Jones gold medal and British Orthopaedic Association prize.
