About me

Mr Clouston undertakes his NHS practice at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust where is he works as a Consultant Colorectal, Peritoneal and General Surgeon. He is the Clinical Lead for Colorectal Surgery
Mr Clouston graduated from The University of Liverpool Medical School in 2006. Initial postgraduate training was undertaken in Liverpool before moving to The Northwest (Manchester) Deanery for his surgical training in 2008. He undertook his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) at the Paterson Institute at The Christie which was completed in 2016. He completed his FRCS in 2017 and undertook a year of training at The Christie in Peritoneal and Advanced Colorectal Malignancy. He was appointed as a Consultant at The Christie in 2018. He undertakes his Private Practice at The Christie Private Care.
At The Christie he is a core member of the Colorectal and Peritoneal Oncology Center. He undertakes the surgical and non-surgical management of patients with:
• Primary (including advanced and multivisceral resections) colorectal cancers.
• Recurrent colorectal cancer
• Peritoneal surgery for colorectal and appendix neoplasms (CytoReductive surgery and Heated Intra-peritoneal Chemotherapy)
• Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumours
• Anal cancers
• General surgical procedures (e.g. hernias and proctology)
The surgical procedures that he undertakes are undertaken by both laparoscopic (keyhole) and open approach.
He is a core member of the Pelvic, Peritoneal, Neuroendocrine and Anal Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDTs).
Mr Clouston is actively involved in research. His research interests include both basic science and clinical research. As part of his Doctorate in Medicine he undertook laboratory based research into the role that Tissue Factor has as a pro-cancer protein in colorectal cancer. This research was undertaken with a view to discovering novel colorectal cancer treatments. Clinical research includes research into finding biomarkers for the development of venous thrombosis after colorectal surgery. Mr Clouston is joint Chief Investigator on the multicentre randomised controlled trial SUNRRISE which is examining the effect that negative pressure dressings have on preventing surgical site infections.
