About me

I am a chartered Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience of using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a wide range of presenting problems. I am Accredited with the British Association for Cognitive & Behavioural Psychotherapies (BABCP) and have over 15 years of experience working within the area of mental health, with much of my clinical work taking place within the NHS. I currently also work within in a higher education setting and deputise the wellbeing services, as well as being the clinical lead for the student mental health and wellbeing services.

I am trained in using Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). This approach incorporates CBT techniques, Mindfulness based interventions and concepts from various schools of psychology such as evolutionary, developmental, social, and Buddhist psychology. The approach also has a strong focus on neuroscientfic concepts relevant to helping us understand how to regulate our emotions, and facilitate the development of more compassion which can help to alleviate the symptoms of many mental health difficulties.

I also offer EMDR which is a type of therapy that was originally developed to help people to heal from traumatic experiences. This type of therapy does not require the individual to dive deeply into verbal explanations of traumatic events, as this can understandably be re-traumatising for some. It instead uses various techniques to help the brain to process the traumatic memories in a gentle but effective manner. The therapy originally developed an evidence base for working specifically with PTSD, however it is also proving to be effective for other types of anxiety related difficulties as well.

I have a strong interest in the mind and body connection and have been exploring yoga as a therapeutic modality for working with anxiety, depression, trauma and other mental health difficulties. I am a qualified yoga therapist and I am currently continuing my training in more traditional forms of yoga for self development, as well as for my clinical work.

As well as the above I will also draw on approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Person-centered psychotherapy. I am integrative in my approach and will tailor therapy to meet the individual needs of the client.

I aim to provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore and reflect upon thoughts and feelings, and to facilitate the change process in a way that feels collaborative, respectful and in line with the goals of the individuals that I work with.
