About me

Mr Thompson specialises in all aspects of knee surgery including acute ligament injuries especially ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).

His surgical interests include meniscal injuries, complex ligament reconstruction and total and partial knee/joint replacement (knee arthroplasty). He also has a special interest in anterior knee pain in athletes and has reconstructed Olympic gold medalists. His patients include television and Hollywood film stars, elite athletes from all arenas including professional footballers and rugby players from both men's and women's disciplines.

Simon has contributed to many publications in the field of soft tissue knee surgery and his papers on ACL reconstruction are Internationally renowned and award winning. He regularly lectures internationally on complex knee ligament reconstruction and is regular faculty member on orthopaedic training courses as well as being a reviewer of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and other peer review journals.

Simon is a Felllow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and distinguished in having been appointed and awarded as a Research Fellow at the Royal College and Senior Honorary Clinical lecturer at Imperial College London. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA); British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) and one of only two International members of the highly prestigious Australian Knee Society (AKS).
