A first session is an opportunity to see how we get on and ensure that we are both comfortable to make an agreement to work together. I regard emotional distress and difficulty as a normal part of life which sometimes needs addressing in a professional context. We are all potentially vulnerable & we all have our limits. Sometimes we may become stuck in patterns of being and relating which are unhelpful to us and which we need to express, understand and begin to change.
I welcome those who seek Psychotherapy and Counselling because of unhappiness or trauma stemming from childhood and those whose issues originate in present day experiences, or indeed both. I will address both the causes of your difficulties and your symptoms such as Depression, Anxiety, Panic, OCD, Phobias, Disordered Eating. I see people long, medium and short term, as of need.

My Approach

My Integrative practice, values & orientation have developed organically through over 40 years experience in mental health and substance misuse settings & private practice as well as through my training. I draw on a number of approaches including Object Relations & Attachment Theory from the Psychodynamic tradition, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Person Centred and Bodywork from a Humanistic perspective, and am more interested in connections than divisions between therapeutic approaches. Fostering and actively working with the Therapeutic Relationship is for me the central integrating principle of therapy & is supported by contemporary research.

Although mine is largely a verbal therapy, I also use art materials and other creative methods where clients find this of value.
