About me

I am fellowship trained foot & ankle specialist. Currently I am working as a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon in University Hospital Southampton. I also work in Spire Hospital, Chalybeate, Southampton & Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital, Eastleigh, Hampshire.

I have a specialist interest in complex foot and ankle trauma and provide a specialist elective foot and ankle service.
I regularly treat patients with arthritis of the ankle and foot, performing ankle joint replacement in suitable cases. I also use small incisions (Minimally Invasive surgery) to perform procedures such as arthroscopic ankle fusion and fibular nailing.

You may be referred to me if you have a complex foot or ankle fracture, tendon problems in your foot or ankle, or a foot deformity like bunions or curly toes. I also specialise in ligament reconstruction and rehabilitation for sports injuries.

I have published several papers in peer-reviewed foot and ankle journals. I am leading three multi-centre national research trials based at University Hospital Southampton; the UK STAR trial studying rehabilitation after Achilles tendon rupture; AIR trial studying rehabilitation after ankle fracture and ACTIVE trial studying treatment of complex fracture around ankle (Pilon fracture)
I have introduced fibular nailing, a new procedure for treating ankle fractures at Southampton General Hospital.

Areas of interest

I treat all foot & ankle conditions such as bunion; hammer toes; curly toes; ingrowing toe nails; hallux valgus and rigidus; tendon problems such as Achilles tendonitis; planter fasciitis. I do ankle arthroscopy; arthroscopic fusion of ankle using small incisions and do total ankle replacement for arthritis. I also treat fractures around foot & ankle.
I treat sports injuries focusing on rehabilitation to achieve early return to sports. If required I perform ligament reconstruction surgery.
