About me
Mr Graham Cheung is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool University and Broadgreen Hospitals, where he specialises in hand and wrist surgery. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at Edge Hill University.
After being born and raised in Merseyside, he remained in Liverpool to do his medical degree, graduating in 1999. After staying to complete his basic surgical training in the Mersey region, he went to the renowned Stoke – Oswestry rotation to do his Specialist registrar training, obtaining his FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic) in 2010. It was at Oswestry that he developed an interest in hand surgery and so went on fellowships to the Sheffield Hand Centre and the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby.
Mr Cheung has completed diplomas in orthopaedic engineering and hand surgery at Cardiff and Manchester Universities respectively. He has written book chapters on the basic science of tendons, wrist fractures and tumours of the hand. He has published several peer reviewed journal articles on hand and wrist conditions.
Being a keen and enthusiastic teacher, he is regularly invited to train on courses for senior registrar trainees coming up to their consultant exams on courses at Wrightington, Oswestry and within the Mersey region. Mr Cheung has been appointed as an honorary senior lecturer in recognition for his work as part of the faculty for the MCh Orth course.
He is also an examiner for the British hand diploma.
Areas of interest
As well as treating nerve compressions, arthritis, wrist injuries and tendon disorders, Mr Cheung has a specialist interest in treating people who have been affected by neuromuscular disorders that have affected their hand and wrists. These include cerebral palsy, head injury and strokes.
He is now able to offer less invasive procedures, such as Endoscopic (Keyhole) Carpal tunnel decompression.
