About me

I have been a consultant specialist in Nephrology (kidney medicine) and General Medicine since 2011 and I am currently based at St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London and BMI Shirley Oaks Hospital. I studied Medicine at the University of Malta, graduating in 1999, and was awarded the membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2003, subsequently becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2015.

Holding dual accreditation in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine, my specialist training has been based within the London deanery, working in some of the most prestigious hospitals in the country, including the Renal and Transplant Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’s hospital, the Renal Unit at King’s College Hospital and the Renal and Transplant Unit at St George’s Hospital.

I am able to offer advice on all aspects in Nephrology, comprising acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, haematuria, proteinuria, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease and glomerulonephritis.

I have undertaken clinical research at King's College Hospital in anaemia of chronic kidney disease. Over the years, I have presented and published both nationally and internationally in various areas of Medicine.

I held senior leadership roles in my Trust, including being the Care Group Lead for Medicine during the COVID pandemic. Additionally, together with a team, I set up the AKI clinic service at St George's Hospital, presenting the significant benefits of the impact of the clinic service on patient care at national and international conferences.

Areas of interest

My specialty interests comprise hypertension (high blood pressure); haematuria; proteinuria; chronic kidney disease; acute kidney injury; glomerulonephritis; adult polycystic kidney disease; diabetic kidney disease.
