About me

Dr Mackworth-Young graduated from Cambridge University and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. His training included posts at the Brompton Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital and two years as a research fellow at Tufts University New England Medical Center, Boston, USA. His clinical and research interests have included include connective tissue diseases, antiphospholipid syndrome and osteoarthritis, and he has published widely in these areas. He has chaired research ethics committees and has developed a nationally adopted method for peer review. From 2006 to 2018 he was Medical Director and Chairman of the Medical Committee at King Edward VII’s Hospital. He was appointed Professor of Practice (Rheumatology) at Imperial College, London in 2017 and was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the 2020 New Year Honours.

Inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, osteoarthritis, soft tissue rheumatism.
