About me

Dr Milestone is very experienced in the management of all aspects of gastrointestinal and liver disorders, comprehensively assessing and investigating your symptoms, before recommending appropriate individualised treatment.

Career History:
Dr Milestone studied medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, Imperial College London qualifying with Bachelor Honour Degrees in Medicine, Surgery and Medical Science with Physiology.

Andrew subsequently trained in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Internal Medicine in London at Hammersmith, St Mary’s, Charing Cross and St Mark’s hospitals, all internationally recognised centres of excellence in Gastroenterology.

He spent the final 3 years of his training treating complex gut diseases at St. Mark's Hospital, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Disease leading to a Doctorate in Medical Research (MD) from Imperial College London in 2012.

Andrew was honored for his achievements by election as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London in 2014 (FRCP).

Dr Milestone currently holds the post of Lead Clinician in Gastroenterology at Hereford County Hospital.

Dr Milestone is a fully JAG accredited endoscopist and trained at the Wolfson Endoscopy Unit, the only centre in the UK with the distinguished status of OMED World Centre of Excellence for Endoscopic Training and Research. He is Clinical Lead for Endoscopy Training at Hereford and also a Faculty member on National courses teaching colonoscopy to other endoscopists.

Dr Milestone works closely with an extensive multidisciplinary team of colleagues, including consultant surgeons and radiologists (X-ray), dietitians and psychologists. In particular, patients diagnosed with cancer are managed in close collaboration other experts from the 3 Counties Cancer Network, including chemotherapy/ radiotherapy specialists (oncologists), histopathologists, and MacMillan specialist nurses in order to select the best evidence-based treatment tailored to the patient’s own circumstances. Dr Milestone will refer you as appropriate, introduce and support your case.

In his role as Lead Clinician for Gastroenterology at Hereford County Hospital, Dr Milestone has progressively modernised and upgraded the Department of Gastroenterology and Medicine since his arrival in Herefordshire in 2010. He has introduced state-of-the-art, next generation diagnostic technologies, including:
- Video Capsule Endoscopy
- High Resolution Oesophageal Manometry and pH impedance studies
- Faecal Calprotectin and Faecal Immunochemistry (non-invasive tests for bowel inflammatory and cancer).

Andrew is also Clinical Lead for Nutrition.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Dr Milestone always has a clinical improvement project in development! For example, Andrew is responsible for establishing the Department of Acute Medicine at Hereford Hospital (including the Clinical Assessment Unit) and several safety innovations.

This dedication is reflected in his NHS Annual Appraisal Summary Feedback 2018: “Dr Milestone is highly motivated & dedicated to improving quality & safety of service provision, within & beyond own speciality/department incl. collaboration with colleagues across the trust & primary care (illustrated by portfolio of service improvement initiatives). High level of ongoing mutual respect for patients & colleagues evidenced by an excellent broad spectrum of multidisciplinary 360 degree feedback (ward/speciality nurses, support staff, doctors & managers).”
