About me
I have been a consultant since 2004, training in the northeast, Wales, and Manchester. Much of my training and research was within specialist centres for cancer management, completing an MD research thesis (Christie Cancer Centre, Manchester) on the role of p53 gene mutations in ovarian cancer. I also completed colposcopy training for the management of cervical smear abnormalities (with regular re-accreditation).
To ensure the best and safest surgical practice, I obtained an MSc (University of Surrey, Guildford) in advanced gynaecological laparoscopic surgery. This has ensured I have the knowledge and skills for major laparoscopic surgery for many gynaecological conditions.
I am now based in Durham and the Lead Clinician for Gynaecological Cancers in County Durham & Darlington NHS Trust, with experience in rapid cancer investigation and diagnosis, colposcopy, and treatment of endometrial cancer.
This specialist experience has also given me expertise in the management of a broad range of benign gynaecological disorders - pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and vulval conditions.
I have also been the local Principal Investigator for several national research trials, successfully recruiting to agreed targets and ensuring patients have a high standard of care.
Recently I was appointed as an honorary Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellbeing, University of Sunderland. The remit is to support the development of cancer, obesity, and women’s health research in the Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute.
I am also involved in training doctors in gynaecological surgery, colposcopy, vulvar disease, cancer investigation, and cancer management, including cadaveric simulation training in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
Consequently, the care I offer is always evidence-based and holistic, and my private practice is in line with my NHS scope of practice. My focus is on the highest quality service for all patients, and I will always advocate patient choice so you can elect for the most appropriate treatment as an individual.
