Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Dr Amanda Michie qualified in Clinical Psychology in 1991 at Edinburgh University. Since qualifying, she has worked in a range of NHS settings, including GP surgeries, other primary care settings, social work centres and hospitals, including the Lead Psychologist for the LD service in Edinburgh. She has a long-standing interest in therapeutic approaches and has worked with a variety of client groups. In addition to clinical practice, she has also conducted many scientific studies into the effectiveness of psychological therapies. She has published over 25 journal articles and contributed to academic text books.

Amanda uses a range of evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness and EMDR, to help improve the psychological well-being of her patients. Using a range of psychological models, she assesses and treats a range of conditions. The most common include: anxiety disorders, for example, panic disorders, phobias and social anxiety; low mood; depression; low self-esteem/confidence; eating disorders; post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. She also provides stress management, including work related stress; anger management and cognitive assessment.
