About me

Dr David Hulse is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine and specialist in cycling medicine, endurance sport and injury rehabilitation.

He qualified from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 1996 and initially trained in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. In 2005 he left surgical practice to pursue his interest in sports injury rehabilitation and in 2009 became one of the first doctors in the UK to complete formal training as a specialist in sport and exercise medicine.

David has worked extensively in professional cycling, including as race doctor for the Tour of Britain and team physician to WorldTour professional cycling teams. He has expertise in cycling biomechanics, training and injuries and has contributed to education and development within the cycling industry.

He also spent many years as a Consultant at Headley Court, the UK Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, where he led a multidisciplinary team in lower limb injury rehabilitation and the diagnosis and management of exercise-induced leg pain. The team published extensive research into chronic exertional compartment syndrome.

His clinic offers specialist assessment and diagnosis of cycling injuries, and management of a broad range of sports injuries and health issues related to endurance sport. He also delivers a broad model of health optimisation and performance coaching as a keystone of his practice. David is a lifelong cyclist, who has a unique understanding of the physical demands of the sport, and the importance of health to human performance.
