About me
I have been a Lower Limb Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for 30 years. I graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1983.
My Orthopaedic training was based in the North West region. In 1994 after 2 years in full time research I was awarded the higher degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) from Manchester University and in 1996 was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery.
I was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Salford Royal NHS Trust (formerly Hope Hospital), a teaching hospital, in 1996.
My practice has always been lower limb being broadly based with approximately 50% of my practice being foot and ankle surgery, 25% knee surgery and 25% Hip surgery.
In April 2013 I elected to leave the Salford Royal and practice solely at the Ramsay Oaklands Hospital in Salford.
Since leaving the formal NHS I have maintained a busy outpatient and surgical lower limb practice. In 2024 I performed over 500 operations and in the same year held over 4000 out patient consultations.
Foot and Ankle
I have considerable experience in operations for bunions and hammer toe deformity. I have extensive expertise in soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, deformities of the foot and ankle as well as painful foot conditions. I perform keyhole surgery of the ankle and great toe joint. I have considerable expertise in revision foot surgery.
Knee
I have in depth expertise in elective knee surgery, I perform keyhole surgery and total knee joint replacement surgery. I am trained in current methods for the treatment of joint surface injury including chondral grafting.
Hip and Pelvis
I have more than 30 years experience in treating hip conditions as a Consultant. In addition I am one of a small number of surgeons in the UK who perform keyhole surgery of the hip joint, beneficial in non arthritic hip disorders.
Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery.
I have 30 years of experience as a Consultant performing total hip and total knee replacements. My National Joint Registry 3 year profile confirms I continue to perform above the national average number of operations per year and continue with use Prostheses which have excellent long term outcomes.
